Effective teamwork is an essential prerequisite
to organisational success. Teams that do not perform become the
weakest link in the organisational chain and can hold the whole
business back.
We specialise in bringing together an expertise
in how teams work and the typical barriers to team performance with
the ability to link this back to real workplace improvement. Typical
team events are two days long and follow a three step approach.

Step 1: Create a parallel universe.
Create a hot-house environment which
allows all the interpersonal and personal issues to be surfaced
but remove the real work context. We do this by challenging
the team to achieve something as a team outside their normal comfort
zone. This can mean anything from sailing a 40ft yacht, to producing
and broadcasting 2 hours of day-time television, physical challenges
like walking in Wales to intellectual challenges like running a
million dollar company. The specific challenge is always tailored
to the group. The result is always to provide real-time examples
of behaviour that normally manifests at work over longer periods.

Step 2: Present a model to understand the behaviours
Having generated the examples of effective and
less effective behaviour we can then start to review and understand
them. By giving people a model to recognise and understand the impact
of certain behaviours, you can make them aware of their impact on
others. From here you can get some significant breakthroughs in
individuals appreciating their own and others contribution
to team effectiveness.
We use a range of team and interpersonal models
from Myers-Briggs (MBTI®) to Social styles, Belbin and others
as appropriate.

Step 3: Invite them to apply this to work
The final and most important step is to
plan how these new insights can help the team be more effective
at work. This step is often left to the individual, but we have
found by building this into the workshop we can make the transition
back to work easier and more likely to be effective.
