Level 5 Leadership development

Many businesses lack the people focus that it takes to have people thrive and grow, where loyalty is generated through respect of contribution and acknowledgment of potential, and where people are inspired to give and achieve the best they can.

Recent research has identified that there is a way in which we can lead successful businesses in contrast to the way in which many businesses are led.

Distinctions have been made between the differences of leadership and management and what it is that turns good companies into great companies.

What we do is to look beyond skill and examine the underlying elements that go to build the sort of leadership that is starting to be recognised as a strong component of success and a major differentiator.

Level 5 Leadership is the term coined for an individual who blends extreme personal humility with intense professional will (Jim Collins – Good to Great). The research that led to the discovery of what has become known as level five leadership is counter intuitive and even counter cultural, as we have been brought up to believe great leaders are charismatic personalities who are extrovert by personality and somewhat Type A in behaviour. This is proven not to be the case.

There is no quick ten step approach to attaining Level 5 Leadership, so what we offer is a development centre is to look at the soft competencies of the innovation economy.

Some of the ideas that the centre builds on are the following: -

  • There is more to us than meets the eye – the ‘treasure chest’ principle.
  • Partnership in flatness V partnership in growth.
  • Partnership in flatness assumes that people do not believe that there is more to another, other than what they are able to see.
  • In a partnership in growth you will behave as though you believe that there is more to someone and that potential is accessible.
  • The impact people have on one another largely goes unnoticed.
  • At an organisational level, our impact is largely not valued
  • At an individual level you can be wrapped up with dealing with you own tasks, unaware of or take no account of or responsibility for your own actions.
  • This work sets out to re define the impact that we have on ourselves and others create a positive spiral upwards that will produce unrivalled economic results as well as rewarding personal growth and development.
