What coaching means to me...
“Coaching is all about helping an individual to unleash their capacity to think outside the box and solve their own problems...and to be inspired and motivated to bring those ideas to fruition”
Coaching Style and Approach
I am naturally curious and genuinely interested in people, therefore Coaching follows as a very enjoyable and effortless part of my style and personality. Fundamental to my coaching style is to encourage the client to lead with their agenda first and foremost, and to talk openly and candidly in a safe and trusting environment. I will respond by coaching them to explore all options, challenge them to think beyond their boundaries to solutions they may not have previously> thought of…and ultimately to choose a way forward that is both motivating and inspiring. The added bonus is that the client has the great satisfaction of having created and chosen a Strategy, plan or path for themselves which is (hopefully!) entirely of their own making…and will therefore be much more inclined to act on and implement it.
Experience - Industry Sectors, Organisational Level, Countries
I have coached managers up to board level in a very diverse spectrum of organizations, ranging from Local Government through to high tech Companies, largely in the Telecoms and Data Storage industries. More recently I have started to move into more ‘heavy’ industrial Companies such as steel manufacturing and energy production where, interestingly the environment and backdrop may be very different, but the issues remain the same!
Typical Coaching Assignments
I have coached several hundred managers who have been hand-picked as ‘high potential’ future leaders of the company in order to assess where they are now, and what their Development Plan should be in order to fulfill that potential.
I have also coached managers in career transition, and in ‘sensitive’ situations such as work place stress and burnout, and from many cultures (most European countries, India, China, Japan etc…)
